A prayer for Dean Smith: Powerful words that broke a barrier between rivals

A prayer for Dean Smith does not only offer words of love and praise for the legendary UNC coach, but it also has worked at knocking down the barrier between two groups of rivals. According to The Inquisitr on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, a NC State junior wrote this prayer for Dean Smith and it has been making the rounds on the Internet.

Rob McLamb’s prayer for Dean Smith has caught the eye and heart of many who have read it, but most of all both UNC fans and their rivals at NC State are all touched by the sentiment that the prayer holds. Smith has been making less appearances these days because of his fading memory due to Alzheimer's and this is something that McLamb addresses in his piece. McLamb recognizes all that Smith has done and conveys how he improved the lives of many during his time as coach.

The prayer also conveys how Smith’s admiration comes from all over and reaches far beyond UNC fans. His wish for Smith is simple:

“When Smith is having one of his better moments, it would be wonderful if he could just feel a warm breeze of love — the type of feeling people get when they look into the eyes of someone they care for unconditionally and see the exact same expression staring back. It would be an appropriate way to show gratitude for someone who gave so much to others.”

McLamb goes on to say that he hopes that feeling gains momentum and spreads from UNC and NC State. McLamb’s approach at praising Smith is getting much attention as he breaks down the barriers between the two college rivals, but most of all because of his heartfelt words of recognition about a great man.
