Every year, the U.S. President, U.S. Senate, state governors, and officials around the world proclaim the third week in October CHARACTER COUNTS! Week. Every year millions of kids in dozens of countries participate. No matter what your political or religious affiliation, this event is about the universal values we share. The next CHARACTER COUNTS! Week is October 20-26, 2013.
Students at Jupiter Elementary School in Palm Beach County School District exemplify character daily, and at the start of the 2012-2013 school year, Jupiter Elementary School was interested in implementing a new school pledge to incorporate into the School-wide Positive Behavior Support System.
“The students were excited to learn they too could be a part of this endeavor,” said Principal Daniel Smith. “Through the support of the guidance department’s instructional lessons, students in K-5 were challenged to compose a pledge that would represent how we should conduct ourselves at Jupiter Elementary. The Braves’ Way Pledge needed to reflect the schools Universal Guidelines for Success. Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.”
Four finalists were selected and their pledges were then placed on a ballot for a vote by all the students. The new Braves’ Way Pledge that has now been adopted by Jupiter Elementary School was composed by two fifth graders, Hannah Mac and Ava Romero. This pledge by the student reflecting the choice for a pledge by all of the students at Jupiter Elementary School illustrates the impeccable character of the school’s students, teachers, staff, parents and the community. Well done JUPITER ELEMENTARY!
