A Plan Proposes to Reconstruct Newark , JFK and LaGuardia Air Ports

According to Steve Strunsky/The Star-Ledger, a study was released by Manhattan Based Regional Plan Association proposes to invest 15 billion dollars in three air ports, Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia.  The Manhattan Based Regional Plan descries that traveling would augment almost 50 percent in the next twenty years. Thus, the authorities should invest money in expanding airports in order to shun delays. Moreover, the airports need to be prepared to handle the increasing voyagers.

The plan also needs to be implemented in order to eschew losing business, and employment growth. “What’s at stake is 130,000 jobs, $16 billion in sales” averred Jeffrey Zupan, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Based Regional Plan Association.   Zupan further notes, “If we do not do the expansion, we’re leaving millions of people un-served. We’ve got to get started.”

The plan engenders several questions: What about the current financial problems that the Port Authority is facing? Can the Port Authority fund this project? Currently, the Port Authority is dealing with recession and profits are decreasing. Furthermore, the Port Authority needs to implement other plans, such as replacing the Goethals Bridge. Hence, it is unclear whether or not the Port Authorities can execute the Manhattan Plan proposal.
