Gilbert and Sullivan meet The Hypocrities in this re-imagined version of The Pirates of Penzance, which Actors Theatre will present starting today.

The Pirates of Penzance will take place at various times from Jan. 7-Feb. 4. All performances are to happen in the Bingham Theatre at Actors Theatre, located at 316 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Tickets for each show range in price, depending on the seat. All tickets, if still available, can be purchased at the Actors Theatre website, the Actors Theatre box office, or by calling the box office at 502-584-1205.

The Pirates of Penzance is a Gilbert and Sullivan musical turned on its head thanks to comic theatre gorup The Hypocrites. The story focuses on a boy mistakenly raised as a pirate. When he becomes an adult, he meets a Major-General's daughter and passes on being a pirate. A pirate's life, though, may still not be far behind.

The Hypocrities bring forth a reimagined script alongside guitars, beach balls, and banjos. This being the dead of winter, they may have just the comedic dose of summer audiences will need.

Sean Graney and Thrisa Hodits co-directed the production, which Graney also adapted.

During The Pirates of Penzance's run, Actors Theatre will also present Our Town. That production will go on beginning Jan. 21.
