With the Boys of Summer around the corner, the Barrett-Jackson classics rolling in, and the Waste Management Golf Tournament tents going up, Spring is in the air. Which also means that we are on our way toward Summer and our air conditioning bills will soon compete with our car payments. Before the triple digits hit, I wanted to get out and find some great red wines to drink that would not make my wallet melt.
My first mission was to find a bottle of wine to bring to a New Year's Day Bowl Game party. Not knowing what was being served, I needed to find a wine that could pair well with most foods. I went to my local Safeway and hit the wine aisle like I do on most weekends and started looking at the shelves. I started with the Cabernets but then thought most of them would be to heavy and maybe drown out some of the food at the party. I ended up looking at the Pinot Noirs and was so glad to see a familiar label on sale.
Mark West Pinot Noir - 2008
This wine is 100% Pinot and is aged in French Oak Barrels for 8-10 months. It has cherry and plum flavors with hints of strawberry and vanilla. It is light, soft and at the same time round in the mouth. It pairs well too with most foods.
This is a great tasting red wine that is affordable for almost any budget. Derek Benham, the founder of Mark West Wines, believes that your wine should not cost more than the meal you are enjoying with it. He also likes to say that this wine is a Pinot for the People and I couldn't agree more.
Until Next Time, Live Well and Within Your Means.
