A Park City Treasure: The Spur Bar and Grill

Only thirty miles from the heart of Salt Lake City  there is a mining town that has become one of the most popular places in the valley. Park City Utah may seem like a world away but for a drive of only about thirty five minutes from Salt Lake City, you can spend a weekend or even just an evening and have an excellent time. Park City may be more known for the ski resorts and snow as everyone knows Utah has the greatest snow on earth. But once you have left the ski slopes for the day why not head to one of the best watering holes on the mountain?

One of the local favorites is a little place known to locals as the Spur Bar and Grill. The Spur opened up in the winter of 2001, just before the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.  They are located at 352 Main St. just down in the alley. There is plenty of parking in the China Bridge parking garage located directly behind them on Swede Alley. There is a four hour limit, but the cost to park there is free, as opposed to parking on Main St. where the parking is $1 per hour during the hours of 11 a.m.-8p.m.. There is a four hour time limit for parking on Main St. past 8p.m.. During the winter their hours are 3 p.m.-1 a.m., seven days a week. During the summer you can stop by between 4 p.m.- 1 a.m..

Once you enter this establishment you know from the start this is not your regular run of the mill corner bar. Not only can you get your favorite spirits on tap, they have hot drinks, martini's and some of the most unique cocktails that you can put to your lips. The atmosphere is hip and refreshing, and you won't be getting your music from a jukebox. They have live entertainment nightly and their music ranges from Country to Rock and everything in between. The bands are local, as well as international bands on a small stage, the only night during the weekend that you don't see live acts is on Sunday nights during open mic night.

This is not the only thing you will find here, hiding in the back they have a  secret. Chef Michael Le Clerc has had twenty plus years working all around the world and takes pride in the dishes he serves here. They will feed you one of the most memorable meals you have ever eaten, or you can plan a formal dinner and share it with some friends. A little advance notice is needed to prepare, but they also do receptions and it could be worth the time for you to check them out if planning a major event. If you just planned on getting a little bite to eat they won't disappoint, if you are looking for basic bar food they have it as well as seafood, steaks, salads and burgers. One of the burgers you must try is the Diablo Burger, it may leave you on the edge of your seat and your mouth watering with delight.  Their beef is freshly hand chopped from Ogden and don't forget about the buffalo chicken wings, they will put some pep in your step.

As with everything else in this economy, you may be wondering about the cost. They are reasonably priced and you definately get the most bang for your buck. Best of all the staff is friendly and courteous.Their current specials are from 3-7 p.m. a $5 Spur burger or wings.  On Sunday they care that price all day and you can add a margarita for just $2.50. Monday's are just as much fun with a locally distilled High West Whiskey shot and a bottle of another local favorite Chasing Tail Pale Ale. Tuesday and Wednesday is $3 Miller High Life day and Thursday is ladies night, so come in for a sparkling wine or Cosmopolitan. For directions or a map to the Spur Bar and Grill or to look further into having them help cater your next event. For more information give them a call at 435-615-1618.
