There has been a new cycle of violence erupting between Palestinians and Israelis. Recently a Palestinian teen was abducted and killed in a suspected revenge attack reported Ma'an News Agency on July 3, 2014. Israeli army radio has reported a Palestinian teenager from occupied East Jerusalem was kidnapped and killed early on Wednesday in what appears to have been an act of revenge for the recent killing of three Israeli teens.
The murdered Palestinian youth was 16-year-old Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir from the Shufat neighborhood. Witnesses have said footage from surveillance cameras shows Israelis coming out of a Hyundai in front of Abu Khdeir's house and forcing the teen inside before speeding away. Outrage from the murder lead to a wave of clashes in East Jerusalem where about 200 angry young Palestinians threw stones at police. The police responded with sound bombs and rubber bullets.
The murder of Abu Khdeir has been described as a suspected revenge attack for the recent kidnapping and murders of three Israeli teenagers from the southern West Bank. Israel has hit Hamas as being to blame for their killings in an incident which has triggered calls for revenge. However, Hamas denied any involvement in the incident. But shortly after the three Israeli teens were buried on Tuesday about 200 Israelis rampaged through Jerusalem as they stopped cars and shouted "Death to Arabs."
The murder of the Palestinian teen was an apparent act of vigilantism which is anticipated to intensify already worsening relations between Israel and the Arabs. The murder of the Palestinian teen highlights a growing fear that more violent acts will be carried out reports Al Jazeera. The Palestinian teens body was found reportedly burned and with signs of torture by police. Protests were set off outside the home of the family of the dead Palestinian teen.
The teen's mom, Suha Abu Khdeir, has been in shocked silence and often breaks into tears. Although The families of the three murdered Israeli teenagers issued a statement condemning Khdeir's murder the cycle of hate between the Palestinians and Israelis has been spinning out of control. Before the kidnappings Palestinians suffered a pattern of hate crimes by right-wing Israelis in acts of reprisal. This has all created an unusually troubling situation in the region.
