Every Thursday night Lefty's Candlelight Bar and Grill holds a night of Hard Rock and Metal called Bedrocks. This particular night two intense bands were featured, Black Dawn and Turrigenous.
The evening started with Black Dawn. This band has been around since the early 90's. Through the years bands break up and new ones are formed, however Black Dawn still remains unscathed liked an unstoppable force refusing to back down. For quite sometime the line up has been: Matt Kotten vocals / lead guitar, Tom Kelly rhythm guitar, James Lane bass and Enzo DiPaolo on drums. Black Dawn has a dirty hard rock/metal feel. You can hear the low growl coming from Lane’s bass, and the down tuned grimy notes leaking from the guitars. Matt's vocals consist of grittiness mixed with melody and occasional guttural screams. Everyone in the room was moving head. Tom would occasionally leave the stage and stand in the crowd while playing. Black Dawn’s sound has improved a lot over the years. Their music will hit you in the face and yet leave you wanting more.
Up next, a four piece act named Turrigenous. They have been around for about four years, spreading their brand of Progressive/Technical/Metal through out Long Island. Current line up consists of Greg Giordano on vocals/guitar, John Vullo guitar, Mike Murry bass and Mark Dara on drums. They are currently working on material for their upcoming CD “The Dream and the Resonance”, the follow up to their current three cut EP “A Slight Amplification”. Turrigenous's set consisted mainly of songs from their yet to be released CD. Dara is known as the sorcerer because he is known to conjure up destructive beats. Mike has very powerful bass lines. Vullo wanders in his own head while creating thoughtful riffs. Giordano creates amazing vocal melodies followed by insane guttural screams. Giordiano and Murry came up with good vocal harmonies during their song “Episphere”. The entire band was on point for the set. The band created epic pieces such as “The Sobering Daylight”, the “Episphere” and “Winter Bloom” just to name a few. Turrigenous never disappoints. They leave the crowd on their toes wondering what the band would think of next.
For an unforgettable experience it is highly recommend that you check out both of these hard working bands.
