For those who are unaware, the city of Sacramento has a continuously flourishing array of Science Fiction events each and every year. In 2013, seemingly even more events are occurring this year that Sci-Fi fans will be able to participate in and enjoy.
Sac-Con, Sacramento’s Comic, Toy, and Anime Show so far has six scheduled conventions beginning in March of this year. In December 2012 at Sac-Con, Ernie Hudson appeared in his classic Ghostbusters uniform to meet the audience and sign autographs. The Capital Film and Arts Alliance, one of Sacramento’s local indie film production groups, is gathering later this month to discuss upcoming projects that no doubt will include some Science Fiction themed works of film to be shown at film festivals after their productions in the fall of this year. On January 22, the Sci-Fi Book Club will be meeting at the Carmichael Library to discuss the underlying messages and ingenuities of the novel: The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Star Trek fans nationwide are eagerly awaiting a release date for the theatrical premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Season 3 remastered episodes on the big screen which will include behind the scenes footage and never before seen interviews with the cast members.
Also for the Trekkies and Science Fiction fans, Star Trek: Into Darkness, the sequel to director J.J. Abrams’s 2009 blockbuster hit, will be shown in 3D beginning on May 17, 2013. Advance tickets in some theaters of the United States are already sold out for the opening night’s event.
Sacramento continues to be a city that has a passion for creativity and a thirst for more than what currently exists or is possible. In this new year, the capital city of California is pleased to host these many upcoming events for the already die-hard Sci-Fi fans and also for those who are just now realizing that the genre of Science Fiction offers so much more depth and possibilities than any other.
