A new year, a new you

“A new year, a new you” was the manifesto of the 2013 kickoff for the hour of power held by the Positive Image Consulting Firm on Saturday January 5, 2013 at 6pm. The hour of power was about making resolutions, and focused on the reason we often fail to meet our New Year’s resolutions. Because of past failure, the majority of people in attendance did not make a resolution this year, me included.

A part of the reason we fail is because we set our standards too high. We know where we want to be, but often have unrealistic goals about how we will get there. Here are some takeaways to meet your New Year’s resolution goals this year:

  • Write down four (just four) things you want to do this year to improve yourself.
  • Write down simple steps that will help you reach your goals.
  • Look at your resources and support systems.
  • Look at your challenges.
  • And finally, don’t get caught up in distractions and excuses.

As Heather Pounds, one of the speakers at the Positive Image Consulting Empowerment hour, said in reference to 2 Corinthians 5:17, “You are a new creature, 2012 is gone.” Stop looking behind at past regrets and past failures. Look forward to the New Year with new opportunities and new choices. This year you can reach your goals, whether it be to quit smoking, lose weight, or stop drinking. Whatever it may be, if you set a long term goal for yourself, with small, simple, doable steps, then you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

The Positive Image Consulting Firm hosts the Empowerment hour the first Saturday of every month at 7303 Fire Lane Road behind Honey Baked Ham and Lowes off of Two Notch Road. Although the event begins at 6pm, the doors open at 5pm and refreshments will be given until 6pm. For more information about Positive Image Consulting Firm, visit www.positiveimageconsulting.org.
