Over the years the Love Dog animal-assisted therapy program has established a wonderful relationship with a children’s therapy group in Las Vegas. We work with several clients weekly and have witnessed amazing breakthroughs with the children through the inclusion of the dogs in their therapy protocols.
Whether the children are living with physical, emotional, behavioral, cognitive or learning challenges, the dogs are always able to add value to the therapy sessions.
This week we introduced our Story Time with the Love Dogs to the facility and will continue to meet monthly. The response was very positive. Several dogs and several children came together to learn about dogs, perhaps experience dogs for the first time, work through a fear of dogs and read some fun stories about the dogs.
This extra day at the Center with the dogs and therapists creates a bridge between their traditional therapy work and alternate avenues to reach each child in a unique way.
Some children read stories and some were read to. Everyone interacted with the dogs and volunteers.
All of the animal teams are Delta Pet Partners registered and part of the Love Dog Adventures therapy program. The Center staff welcomed the dogs and their handlers with open arms and understands the tremendous benefit of working with the pets.
This is a true example of Animal-Assisted Therapy whereby the clinical staff and volunteers work together to create unique and measurable therapies harnessing the animal’s incredible power.
