A new shade for fall

New York Fashion Week is coming to an end. American designers have presented their highly-anticipated fall 2012 collections and one color seems to be reverberant: burgundy. That's right, not red, but burgundy. The shade is somewhere between maroon and plum, a popular lipstick color.

Diane von Furstenberg and the preppy Tommy Hilfiger debuted patent burgundy trenches. The color proved big for outerwear: fur at DKNY, a tailored coat at Victoria Beckham and a bomber jacket at Y-3. Models also donned head-to-toe monochromatic burgundy looks.

Deep burgundy is a far stretch from the common pastels and neons that have graced the runway in past seasons. Burgundy is sophisticated, sultry and rather refreshing. Let's hope this color is here to stay. And remember, if you want to stay ahead of the fashion curve, start shopping now. It's never too early to incorporate fall colors into your wardrobe.

Not to fret fashion lovers, fashion week is not over. Next up: London, Milan and Paris. If designers are on the same page this season, we can expect even more burgundy overseas.
