The "Let's Move!" initiative has brought recognition to the importance of providing the opportunity for children to be physically active daily. The initiative encourages schools to schedule 60 minutes of movement for children during the school day. To help accomplish this, recess is having a "come back" in many schools. Active play during recess can become a time for children to burn off excess energy and rejuvenate in order to focus during academic class time.
Children should be encouraged to be more physically active and less sedentary during recess. Ideas for recess activities that allow all children to participate are: line games, small group and partner games, relays, and circle games. Search "recess games" on line for more ideas.
