Belbrook Lion’s Club kicked off another year on Thursday, August 14 with the crowning of a new Prince and Princess during their annual festival. This year, 16 little girls and little boys were interviewed for a chance to win a spot to participate in the parade and win a new 20’ Huffy bicycle and helmet. The winners of this year’s contest were Rachel Fahrenholz, 7 yrs. old and Coleman Ott, 6 yrs. old.
“The Lion’s club has been an important part of Bellbrook for many years,” Brian Koch said. “This is their 68th Annual Festival and this is the 27th Annual Prince and Princess Contest.”
The master of the ceremony was Brian Koch. He has been a resident of Bellbrook for the past 25 years and is the funeral director at Connor and Koch Funeral Home. With three daughters, he loves children and felt honored to serve as the emcee for the Lioness Prince and Princess Contest.
This year, three judges donated their time to pick the Lioness Princess and Princess. They were Michelle Maoashevitz, Walt Skunda, and Laura Fyman. Maoashevitz works with the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District and the Kettering Recreation Center organizing summer camps for children. She is also working on a degree in Elementary education at Thomas More College. Skunda is the shop owner of Stagecoach Toys, a retail and consignment store in Bellbrook. He sells vintage toys and other collectibles in the store and on the website. Fryman is the owner of the Bellbrook Golf Park Driving Range on Washington Mill Road.
“The judges have their work cut out for them today,” Lion’s Club member, Pat Crowe said.
The winning Prince and Princess were crowned by Leiloni Daskalakis and Ethan Fahrenholz, the 2013 winners.
Each contestant received a goody bag that included a t-shirt, hat, a free drink and a free carnival ride. The winners each received a brand new 20" bicycle and a helmet and will have the privilege of participating in the Bellbrook Lion’s Club parade.
