A New Pope: A new era

Religion can often be a very controversial topic. Many people have very strong beliefs which can generate exceptionally heated conversations. Often times, people think that their beliefs are the only right answer, but it is possible that God speaks to different people in different ways. Religion is a set of beliefs that guide people to do the right thing, even when no one is looking. The core beliefs of most religions teach us to have respect for one another and the earth. As long as they make us better people, almost every religion may feasibly be right. Most religions teach tolerance and understanding, moral values and peace, acceptance and love.
This is an exciting time in the Catholic Church. Pope Benedict’s resignation created quite a commotion considering the deep rooted traditions that often shroud the Catholic Church, but many Catholics believe that he has made the right decision and hope that this change may trigger some more modernizing. Many traditions are wonderful; they give a feeling of comfort and familiarity, but some traditions are misinterpreted or have outdated inspiration.
The election of Pope Francis marks a number of remarkable changes. He will be the first Jesuit pope and the first pope from South America. As the world evolves, it is essential that the religious leaders adapt to make their teachings relevant to those who look to them for guidance. Change can be intimidating, but it also brings great possibilities. Religion is such an important source of comfort for so many, and for the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics, a new era is beginning.
