Author Stormy May, former horse trainer, gave a public speech in October 2012 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming about a new movement that is beginning to take place concerning a new path of awareness with horses. She has begun to explore better ways of working with horses and humans for the purpose of helping create a better world by understanding horses and understanding ourselves.
Stormy believes that once a human becomes aware of certain actions that cause pain or discomfort to a horse and corrects those actions, the horse will become more cooperative. She also does not claim to be a world-renowned expert on horse behavior – she merely genuinely believes that horses respond positively to kindness and gentleness. Stormy wants to share the knowledge she is gathering with the world.
Sometimes when dire situations occur, there are no alternatives to violence toward a horse. Stormy illustrates an example of frightening a loose horse away from a busy road. However, Stormy’s goal is to help people understand that there are peaceful, loving ways to work with a horse on a daily basis.
