A new, more detailed credit report

A new credit report was recently unveiled by CoreLogic, a leader in business data and analytics, designed to increase the transparency of a borrower’s history. A CoreScore report includes unique information that is not typically included in traditional credit reports, broadening the view of a consumer’s credit profile. The new reports will help lenders better access the risk of a borrower.

Previously overlooked credit behavior will include lease applications, missed rental payments, information from payday lenders, child support payments and rent-to-own contracts. "Until now, consumers who have used nontraditional credit or never purchased a home may have had a difficult time qualifying for loans and credit cards," said Tim Grace, senior vice president of product management for CoreLogic. "The CoreScore credit report will allow these individuals to be recognized for how they have managed their finances."

Consumer advocates are concerned that the wider scope will be a problem for low income consumers with the addition of sources that are often less than reputable (landlords, payday lenders, i.e.) But the company maintains that consumers will be able to easily dispute any misinformation they find on their report. "As with other credit reporting agencies, consumers have the ability to dispute erroneous information quickly and have it accurately resolved, or to even freeze access to their credit information all together," Grace said.

The supplemental information is continually updated, providing credit data faster and adding to, not replacing current credit reports. The CoreScore report will be delivered to lenders instantly in an easy-to-use format using the same technology and reporting formats that are currently used with traditional credit reports. An estimated 100 million Americans can view their report by calling 877.532.8778 to request a copy.
