The newest episode of Nintendo Direct, which aired on October 1, 2013, has confirmed a new title in the Kirby franchise. This game does not yet have an official title, but the title on the Japanese logo can be roughly translated to “Kirby: Triple Deluxe.”
The game appears to play very similarly to most other Kirby titles. The player controls Kirby, and he uses his signature copy and floating abilities to progress through stages. The game will utilize the unique features of the Nintendo 3DS, particularly its ability to render 3D graphics. The trailer showed things such as giant hands moving from the background toward the screen, which will likely take full advantage of the system’s 3D capabilities.
Many classic copy abilities will return, such as Sword and Ice, but the game will also feature new ones, such as a beetle-type copy ability that appears to work similarly to the Suplex ability from “Kirby Super Star.” It also appears as though each of the copy abilities will have multiple attacks, rather than a single attack per copy ability (which is usually the norm).
