Most of us grew up with bedtime stories where the prince saves the helpless maiden and marries her to live happily ever after. Today children learn this message in popular cartoon videos instead. There are very few feminist, humanist children's books that teach children about equal partnerships between men and women, where men and women are equally skilled and matched in strength, relationships skills and efficacy.
I wrote, 'When Mars Women Date' for adults. It was about how career women could attract men who supported their dreams and who would co-create equal balanced partnerships at work and at home. But then I realized that imprinting begins very young. And while our parental models are our biggest blueprint, the stories that we are read at an early age influence our daydreams, values, beliefs and choices. They have intergenerational effects.
So, as part of The When Mars Women Date book series, I just wrote a children's picture book called, 'We Are From One Planet' for kids. Here is the link on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Are-Planet-Paulette-Kouffman-Sherman/dp/0988890526... .
My high school artist friend Rachel Shana Vine illustrated it and did a beautiful job bringing the message to life!
This is book #15 in my 22 book legacy series. You can see all of them at: http://parachutejumppublishing.com/books/
If you would like to expose a child to the value of equality and balance in romantic relationships and family then give them this book as a gift!
