A new documentary series is looking for people going off the grid

More and more recently we are hearing about living off the grid, which is to not have things like phone service, cable, electric and so on. If that life style interests you, a major international television production company may want to hear from you. Recently there have been several casting flyers posted that indicate that the are looking for people who are just starting to live off the gird.

The posters say “we’re looking for individuals, couples, families or friends who are serious about forming a brand new civilization from, literally, the ground up, cooking with wood, lighting with oil and doing everything by hand." Nick Rosen, author of “Off the Grid: Inside the Movement for More Space, Less Government, and True Independence in Modern America,” says that there are currently about 750,000 Americans living off the grid without the benefit of public utilities.

Last year Nick told CNN "there's a desire to step out of the rat race, and in America, that goes very deep in the national psyche, you know, the pioneering spirit and sturdy self-reliance -- these things which define the American character."
