As our nation stands on the edge of financial collapse (according to the sayers on 'nay'), it might be a good time to reflect on the mindset that got us here.
First, this nation was founded on Biblical principles (if not on Christianity proper). When these biblical principles were adhered to, our nation was a prosperous growing nation of hope. As evidenced by a quick history lesson, when we grew lax in our worship of God (or turned our backs on Him altogether), immorality increased, hope diminished, crime became a business, greed fueled many careers, and we became enamored with watching other people's lives being lived out on television.
Second, the Bible is clear when it tells us that we were created to worship, serve, obey, and love God. This is our purpose for existing. This duty manifests itself in many different ways, but our reason for being is to "Love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, bodies, and strength. and love our neighbor as ourself" (my paraphrase). When we do not live this way, or when we blatantly reject God and rebel against Him, we fall under His judgment instead of resting in His will.
So, the question I ask it: "Do you want our nation to continue in its downward spiral or will you do something to help bring it back into God's will?" Every single thing is affected by how we respond to God. Our marriages, our families, our jobs, our finances, and ultimately...our eternal destiny depends on whether or not we trust Jesus Christ with our lives or not. God has given us each a choice to make. There will come a day when it is too late to choose to live for God. Then, there is only judgment. Don't wait until it's too late. Love God and live for Him now.
God sent Jesus, His Son, to die on a cross as payment for your sins and mine. However, one can only receive this gift by faith in Jesus (trusting in Jesus' payment for your sins, repenting of your sin, and living for God). The Bible says that every knee will bow as everyone acknowledges the Lordship of Jesus. Some will be glad and rejoice as they are ushered into Heaven. Others will weep with regret as they begin a life of torment apart from the presence of God. Your choice determines your destination. It is the most important decision you'll ever make.
