Valentine's Day is coming up on February 14th. The one day of the year that love abounds and lovers get closer than ever. It is also the most popular day for couple's to tie the knot and ride off into the sunset toward marital bliss. Why only the one day? Why not celebrate your love every day? To do this, begin slow, by trying little romantic things throughout the month leading up to the big day. This can help get you geared up towards a lifelong of love and togetherness.
Days:
- Wake your significant other with breakfast in bed. This makes for a pleasant beginning to his or her morning and you show that you care about them starting their day off right. Mix it up by creating heart shapes with eggs, pancakes and syrup. Add a flower and glass of orange juice and your all set.
- Leave your significant other a love note in his or her briefcase or coat pocket. It doesn't have to be poetic but if you are poetically inclined it can be. Just words of feeling and sentiment are ideal. Imagine the look on his or her face when the note is read.
- Once dinner is on the table, light a candle to add a romantic effect. If you have children, have them eat beforehand then send them to bed or to watch television. Have a candlelight supper just the two of you.
- Draw a bubble bath and recline in each other's arms. Try adding rose petals or scented oils to create a romantic atmosphere. Place some romantic music on the radio to add to your time together.
- Give each other a massage using scented body oils and aromatherapy candles to scent the room. Massage is especially nice at the end of a hectic week and can ease the tension from your muscles. Take turns giving a full-body massage.
- Men, this one is for you and its truly romantic. Give your significant other eleven real red roses and one artificial one. Make out a card that says "I will love you until the last rose withers and dies." This is the most romantic gesture and shows your love is never ending.
- Take a walk in the park and let loose like when you were younger. Push each other in the swings, slide down the slides or just picnic in the crisp air. Its nothing unusual to do this in warm weather but out of season in cold weather can make for excitement and fun.
- Before your significant other leaves for work, tell him or her you worry about them when they are not home and that you have hired a bodyguard for them. This idea, I totally love. Give him or her a teddy bear or lucky charm.
- Place a small present in your significant others briefcase or pocket. It doesn't have to be expensive but something that has meaning such as a small charm, candy or handmade present.
- Write a message on a steamy mirror in the morning when you get out of the shower or in the frost of your significant others car. Put their name and a heart or "I love you," whatever makes them know you are thinking of them.
- Plant a tree on your property together. Take care of it together and every year, have a picnic or glass of wine underneath your tree to show the love that grows between the two of you.
- Watch the sunrise together from your favorite spot. Get up early and walk or drive to your favorite outdoor clearing and watch the sunrise, commenting on the colors and beauty of it.
- Read to each other. Buy a book that you would both enjoy, romantic preferrably, and take turns reading a chapter each night until you finish the book. Do this in place of watching television for quality alone time.
- Try some PDA, public displays of affection. When grocery shopping or running errands, grab your significant other's hand and hold it like when you first met. Give him or her a quick, gentle kiss on the lips or cheek. Let them know you would announce your love to the world for years to come.
- Feed each other. Not only is feeding your significant other romantic but its also sensual and can make for a very interesting evening in the bedroom, or living room, wherever its safe to let loose and have fun.
- Put off weekend chores for a day of shopping together. Whether it be antiquing or shopping for sports equipment, show your love that you are interested in what they are interested in, simply because you love him or her. This shows that you are willing to sacrifice what you love for a day to please the object of your affections.
- Give your significant other a copy of his or her favorite book or movie from childhood. You may have to ask parents or siblings but finding this valued treasure will be sure to bring smiles.
- Drop everything and break out in a slow dance. You don't have to have music, just dance to the music between the two of you.
- Take a mini vacation to a local hotel or a nice scenic attraction. Spend a couple days seeing the sights or just spending time in your room together. Let go of stresses and worries, and take the phone off the hook.
- Create a website for your love. GoDaddy.com has websites as low as $1.99 a month and you don't have to be a developing expert. Add some poems, a picture or two of the two of you and other romantic things that would spice it up. Suggest he or she Google their name and watch their eyes light up when they discover their site. Make sure the domain name is their name so its easier to find.
- Send your love off for the day with a pack of Goldfish crackers. Tape a note to the bag saying something sweet like "Out of all the fish in the sea, I'm so happy you chose me!"
- Make a scrapbook outlining the early years together. Place pictures of dates, vacations and firsts in the book and write the dates in. This is a fun project to do together and very romantic reminiscing.
- Write down vows to give each other. If your married, why not elaborate on your original vows, making promises that will keep your relationship strong. Read them to each other.
- Catch a new movie, something you both want to see. Buy popcorn and sodas and relax in a dark theater, holding hands, stealing kisses and enjoying each other's company.
- Truly listen to each other. Too many couples don't listen to each other when they converse. Make eye contact and spend the evening just talking. Nothing expected but a deep understanding of each other.
- Try different kissing techniques or peruse the Kama Sutra for new positions. Make this an evening of desire and intimacy. You'll be glad you did.
- Create a list of the top ten reasons you fell in love with your significant other. Give him or her the list in pieces and have them solve the puzzle.
- Rent an old movie such as "An Affair to Remember" or "Funny Face" and eat your meal with wine in front of the television. Turn on the fireplace to create a cozy, warm environment and turn out all the lights.
- Spend the day complimenting each other. Compliment how beautiful she looks, how good those pants look on him or how her eyes sparkle. Use your imagination.
- V Day is here. Hire a babysitter and do something that makes the annals of romantic history. Re-enact a scene from your favorite romance movie, renew wedding vows in private to each other, making sure to have a special ring just for the occasion or other special gift, take a tour of the city in a horse and buggy. Its all about romance.
I hope you soon find your romance alive and well and growing with each passing day!
