A medieval delight awaits at the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg

Are you a Clevelander who loves everything medieval? Do you have a thing for jousting knights, sword fights, strolling musicians and Renaissance-era fashions? Then you might want to check out the Ohio Renaissance Festival (celebrating its 25th year) being held in Harveysburg, Ohio every weekend from August 30 through October 19 and join in the medieval merriment.

Ohio Renaissance Festival Taking place at Renaissance Park and set in an authentic historically re-created permanent 16th century English village, the Festival is an interactive outdoor event that attracts visitors from all over the country during the course of its 8 weekends.

Throughout the 30 acre village, entertainment is provided on 11 different stages (almost 100 shows daily) featuring a cast of over 150 costumed characters including dancers, comedians, Renaissance musicians, jugglers, swashbuckling pirates, storytellers and sword fighters.

In addition to visitors attending the Festival in costume, it is not uncommon to see nobles, Vikings, wizards, wenches, pirates and fantasy characters strolling the streets of the village. Each weekend brings a different theme. Some of the themes this year include Barbarian Invasion Weekend, Pirates Weekend, Friends & Family, Romance Weekend, Highland Weekend, Oktoberfest (October 4 & 5), Holiday Marketplace Weekend and a special 25th anniversary weekend.

"Queen Elizabeth" will be presiding over the festivities.

Three full contact armored Knights of Valor jousting shows (led by World Champion and host of TV's "Full Metal Jousting" Shane Adams) are offered each Festival day. Come and watch the valiant knights do battle.

Other highlighted entertainers and shows at the Ohio Renaissance Festival include the KamiKaze FireFlies juggling duo, The Swordsmen (combining sword fighting with comedy bits) and the Theater in the Ground (also known as the Mudde Show) where actors will perform literary classics with a comedic twist amidst mud.

There will also be lots of games and competitions involving archery, knife throws, axe throws and darts and there will be a Storm the Castle Climbing Tower in addition to several amusement rides. And don't miss the War Horse rides (ride a knight's horse!).

The Festival also features more than 140 world class craftspeople and artisans who will be giving demonstrations and selling their handcrafted wares. Among the artisans will be a blacksmith, a glassblower, a metalsmith, a candle maker, a boot maker, artists, a stone carver and leather crafters. Visitors will be able to purchase jewelry, Renaissance clothing, armor, weaponry, stained glass items, pottery, art prints, sculptures and musical instruments just to name a few.

Of course, there will be a bounty of food available for purchase including the Renaissance Festival favorite giant turkey legs in addition to bangers & mash, Westminster stew, steak-on-a-stake, Royal Scottish eggs, roasted corn-on-the-cob, Peasant's potato soup, pizza, Canterbury pork sandwiches, fish & chips and sumptuous desserts like berry cobbler, carrot cake, strawberry pound cake, chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches and apple dumplings.

There will also be a variety of libations including beer, ales, wines, mead and coffee, teas and soft drinks for sale.

Hours for the Ohio Renaissance Festival are 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $18.95 for adults and $8.95 for children (5-12). Children under 5 are free.
