A man is shot to death outside a Columbia home

An argument between two men ended in tragedy when one shot the other outside a home on Trotter Road, investigators said today.

Details of the shooting were still sketchy by late evening and Richland County Coroner Gary Watts could not be reached for comment.

As of late today, no charges were filed although deputies were questioning the man they identified as the shooter, Richland Count Sheriff's Sgt. Kim Myers said.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Monday outside the home at 2521 Trotter Road. It's unclear who reported the shooting, nor if a woman who was at the home witnessed the incident, officials said.

Myers could not provide details about the woman.

The man deputies said is the shooter lived at the Trotter Road home, Myers said.

"The two had gotten into an argument when the subject drew the weapon and shot him," Myers said.

Myers said she did not know why the men were arguing nor how well they knew each other.

Deputies have the weapon used in the shooting.
