Arlene Klein discussed her passion, "I've always had a love affair with animals. As a child, I was lucky to have parents who allowed me pet companionship and responsibility. As I matured, I had great concern for the health of animals that share our world."

She is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She instilled her love for animals in their lives, "Dogs have been valued members of my family; my purpose is to give all to them that they have given to me."

She talked about her career, "I feel compelled to educate others on the importance of pets and to teach them respect and compassion for animals. I'm determined to continue my work for their welfare. I produced a video on responsible pet ownership, A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DOG and I wrote a booklet on pet loss, I NEVER WANTED TO SAY GOODBYE."

Loss inspired Arlene's book, "I wrote the pet bereavement booklet because I lost two of my precious Yorkshire Terriers just five weeks apart. I wrote poetry to get through my pain, but it was also a message from my heart to others going through trying times.

She shared an insert, "I titled one of my favorite poems, ERICA'S SONG. Erica is one of my grandchildren. She was the tender age of three and uttered words that helped me write the poem.

‘Mom Mom! Dusty and Casey are not old and sick anymore.
They are in heaven. They are happy and they play.
The words I will cling to forevermore
About the little dogs she still looks for.'

From Erica's genuine words, I drew strength to write the poem."

I've served on the Board of Trustees of Morris Animal Foundation, the Board of Directors of Humane Societies and as a member of the Board of Directors for a Guide Dog School; the human/animal bond became ever clearer to me. All of my involvements with animals further supported my feelings!"

Arlene's advice, "Take time to reflect on your magical pet moments and hold these precious memories dear."

In her words, "There are three important things in life; someone to love, something to do and something to hope for. Think about it; a precious pet to love! Be responsible for something greater than oneself. The hope is for all pets to have a forever home."

Thank You Arlene for writing this booklet. It has been a little over 2 months since I had to say goodbye to my Beloved Yorkie Chewch. As he grew older and began to slow down and ail, I suffered in anticipation of the day when I had to make the decision to let him go. How will I be sure??? Will I know when it was truly "Time"??
That was the hurdle that I faced and overcame that painful early September evening when I held Chewch in my arms and felt him draw his last breath...felt his last heartbeat through my fingertips.
The next hurdle having arrived....now months later....as I hold the urn containing Chewchs ashes I find myself overcome with the grief of his passing. Yearning to hold him again. Yearning to see and kiss his teddy bear face, a trait which set him apart from other Yorkies. Yearning to receive his sparkling glance in return. Missing his trademark greeting... dropping to his belly, dragging himself through a crawl all while tapping his front paws... finally meeting me nose to nose with the reward of a warm kiss . Can SOMEBODY please help me deal with this cold dish of grief so bitterly and suddenly served unto me???
Arlene...Thank You for your booklet and the soon to be receieved memorial cards which you work at as I write this tribute to you. Your poems and throughts have given me the outlet of understanding and the strength needed to know that others suffer in grief as I do yet go on as I will.
Applying the simple truth I I learned through your booklet...that the lifetime of memories, love and friendship I had with Chewch more than compensates for the grief I now experience. I hold in mind this new wisdom as I embrace, kiss and cherish the lifetime companionship of my 1 yr old Yorkie "Newton"

    God Bless you Arlene
