A Lothian pit bull dogfight has lead to four arrested

Four men have been arrested after holding and conducting a pit bull dogfight. The dog fight was held in a ravine behind a house in Lothian, Maryland. The police received an anonymous tip leading then to the dog fight where they arrested three suspects then and one more the next day. The officers saw a group of men standing around the dogfight but when the police were seen by them, most started to run. There were only four men with the two dogs, which the police officers had to pull apart, when the officers arrived at the bottom of the ravine.

The dogs, named Ali and Forman, were covered in blood from the fight. Both were badly injured and would require medical attention. They were taken to the Animal Control Headquarters in Millersville. Both dogs were severely malnourished and their bones were visible. The adoption rate for dogs like these are not great. No one knows the backgrounds and sometimes this Animal Control will send them out to out-of-state rehabilitation if they don’t show much aggression towards people. Both dogs are responding to people in a good manner, but will be kept at this facility pending this case.

The four men arrested were as follows:

• Donnell Cooper, 23, of Capitol Hill was charged with animal cruelty, dog fighting, mutilating animals, being a dog fighting spectator and trespassing. He was released on his own recognizance a few days later.
• Nathaniel Lockley, 53, of Upper Marlboro was charged with animal cruelty, dog fighting, mutilating animals, being a dog fighting spectator and trespassing. He had a bond set at $2,600 for his release.
• Pervis Sharps, Sr., 34, of Lothian was charged with animal cruelty, dog fighting, mutilating animals, being a dog fighting spectator and trespassing. He was released the next day on a $100,000 bond.
• Kelvin Greathouse, Jr., 23, of Upper Marlboro was charged with six counts of animal cruelty, dog fighting, being a dog fighting spectator and possession-training a dog for a fight. He has a $500,000 bond set for his release.
