Staples

In what’s touted as the biggest product expansion in the chain’s history, Staples, my office supply store of choice, has added a wild variety of new items. I received the press release an excess of a month ago, but I only visited today. I didn’t remember entirely what was the new additions were, but I recognized them right away—we can attribute that to my many visits for my kids’ school supplies and ink for my HP printer.

I strolled the aisles, waiting to notice something interesting and then I saw clothes. What? Scrubs, actually. It was a small selection, but scrubs nonetheless. Next to them were a selection of safety items—headphones, cones, and more… The geek in me wanted to buy some just on general principle, in case I need to totally isolate myself whilst I work. Stay out of my designated area, and just in case you try to talk to me, I can’t hear you—protective headphones! Across from those items was a selection of small appliances. My personal Kryptonite. Little toasters, microwaves, single serve blenders—I totally need a new one, because fitness!

While the items are there for impulse shoppers like me, you still have to appreciate how Staples managed to look beyond the typical office and expand their product offerings to workplaces of different types. I know plenty of ladies in the medical profession that would be happy to have to option to stop at Staples for scrubs in case they don’t have time to go to the specialty store. And if you happen to be the type that receives a fitness reimbursement from your employer, a personal blender for healthy smoothies is a worthy impulse purchase at $19.99.

I was let loose with $150 to spend so on this visit I left with a 32GB micro SD card for my 8” Galaxy Note, two notepads for my padfolio so I can take notes the old school way in biz meetings, an ergonomic mouse pad, and a pack of “jackets” for my steam Shark. (I told you, impulse shopper.) I gave serious consideration to that single serve Oster blender but I decided I’ll buy it later. There are more dollars to be spent when I come back for ink… and Sharpies, and Post-its, and tableware… and maybe some safety cones, because you never know.
