1. Beyoncé

Beyoncé was one of the most talked about artist this year with her amazing halftime performance at the NFL Super Bowl XLVII football game. She absolutely killed it and surprised all fans bringing her former band Destiny’s Child to join her on stage. Everyone joked her performance caused the infamous power outage and confused the football game for her concert. Soon after, she went on The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour and to end the year right released her self-titled fifth album. Without any previous announcements "Beyoncé" was in stores and needless to say fans went crazy.

2. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus has dominated headlines lately with her new sexualized persona. Her most talked about moment began with her VMA's performance with Robin Thicke; twerking all over the place and making most a bit uncomfortable with her foam finger. She has made the twerking dance go viral. Her comfort in her own skin has also made headlines as it seems she has lost all her clothes; she has appeared nude or nearly nude in her music video “Wrecking Ball”, the album cover for “Bangerz” and most recently in her new video “Adore You”.

3 Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake has also had a big year in the music business. After seven years, he put aside his other talents in film and released not one but two albums; “The 20/20 Experience” Part 1 and 2. He won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and briefly reunited with *NSYNC to honor the launch of his career, making fans freak out every where. Justin, whom is constantly reinventing himself and his music, collaborated with Jay Z and produced the two hit songs "Suit and Tie" and "Holy Grail". JT announced two tours which were instantly sold out; the "Legends of the Summer" tour with Jay Z and his solo tour for "The 20/20 Experience".
4. Reunions

Everyone loves when their favorite bands reunite and this year many fans were very lucky and happy to see their wishes come true. Making everyone nostalgic, JT briefly reunited with *NSYNC during his VMA's performance. As mentioned before, Destiny's Child surprised the fans joining Beyoncé during her Super Bowl performance. Danity Kane announced their reunion and made their first appearance together after over four years, at the VMA's and 98 Degrees released a new album and went on tour with Boyz II Men & New Kids on the Block.

5. Videos Gone Viral

Every now and then a video goes viral and it becomes the most talked about video of the year. 2013, however, had a few viral songs that can make you either break into a dance instantly or cause you to cringe after hearing it one too many times. The “Harlem Shake” had everyone, including celebrities, making YouTube videos. “Wop” has many videos of people cleaning while doing the “wop”. Two other songs that had everyone dancing to and making parodies of are “Don’t Drop That Thun Thun” and “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say)”.

6. Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse

Kendrick Lamar’s controversial verse in "Control" was also a big moment in 2013 as it had everyone buzzing. He may have changed the rap game by insulting talented rappers and claiming he is the best; motivating other rappers to challenge him. Once his verse caught the attention of his competitors he had rappers such as J. Cole, Drake, Joell Ortiz, and Joe Budden responding.

7. Breakout artists of the year

There are newcomers in the music business who have finally brought their talent to light this year. Artists include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Lorde, Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey. Even artists such as Imagine Dragon and Robin Thicke who have had songs out in previous years finally received the recognition they deserved with their hit songs.

8. Racy music videos

This year nude was obviously in and music artists were exploiting this new trend in their music videos. Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines" and Justin Timberlake’s “Tunnel Vision” music videos both feature women dancing topless with nude-toned bottoms. Going along with her new persona, Miley Cyrus’ new videos “Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” had plenty of NSFW moments including nudity, lots of twerking, and many other inappropriate acts. Rihanna’s “Stay” and Kanye West’s “Bound 2” also featured partial nudity.

9. Massive hits of the year

Every year we have those few songs that we play over and over again until we can’t hear it anymore. Songs that we continuously hit replay for were Daft Punk featuring Pharell Williams “Get Lucky”, Robin Thicke “Blurred Lines”, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us", Miley Cyrus “We Can’t Stop”, Justin Timberlake “Mirrors”, Icona Pop “I Love It”, and Taylor Swift “I Knew You Were Trouble”.

10. New albums of the year

Fans were ecstatic to see favorites return to the music scene and release new albums this year. Eminem returned to his Slim Shady persona for his new album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2", Katy Perry revealed a more vulnerable and mature side of her in her album "Prism", Justin Timberlake made up for lost time by releasing a two part album of “The 20/20 Experience”, and Beyoncé made it all about the music and released her self-titled album “Beyoncé” unannounced. Other artists who released new albums this year include Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, OneRepublic, Jay Z, Miley Cyrus, One Direction, Kanye West and Drake.

This list is proof that it has been a great year for music. With all the newcomers, amazing performances, new albums and controversy, we can only look forward to what the New Year 2014 will bring.
