In Minecraft's upcoming 1.8 update, not only will we be getting new slash commands, but we will also see a wealth of brand spanking new mobs to kill - or in my case, get brutally murdered by. Let's take a look!

New mobs added in update 1.8:

  • Endermites: Instead of spawning an Enderman's teleporting away animation, the Enderman will sometimes spawn into an Endermite, which are small purple creatures with one red eye and a short, stubby tail - similar to those of Silverfish. In fact, they even have the same audio as Silverfish. However, they are the smallest mob in the game - smaller than both Silverfish and the Baby Chicken. Like an Enderman or Silverfish, Endermites are hostile toward the player.
  • Guardians: Resembling a cyclopean pufferfish, the Guardians serve as Minecraft's own version of "Moby Dick". These oceanic creatures have the the ability to attack the player while they are in boats. Guardians can attack players with a web beam that requires a charging period. Once charged, the Guardian fired an unavoidable beam of devastation. However, they have another form of attack - the ability to extend and retract their spikes, preventing players from getting too close.
  • Elder Guardians: If you thought the sea dwelling Guardians were already a handful, wait until you encounter their boss variant - the Elder Guardians. Three Elder Guardians spawn at every ocean monument the player encounters. When close, the Elder Guardians will flash and inflect the player with Mining Fatigue III for 5 minutes. Besides doing more damage and having more health, the Elder Guardians are basically the same as their regular counterpart.
  • Rabbits: Potentially the most substantial of all the new mobs introduced in update 1.8, the Rabbit is a wealth of possibilities. Featuring over 8 skin variants and dropping rabbit hide, raw rabbit, cooked rabbit, and rabbit's foot, the Rabbit can be tamed and breed. The Rabbit also has a 1 in 1000 chance of spawning as the "Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog" variant, a reference to the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. With the exception of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, all rabbits are fearful of the player and easily scared off, similar to ocelots. However, the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog will attack the player on sight.

Which of the new mobs are you looking forward to most?
