It has been almost one month since this column introduced RecordSetter to a number of gaming communities for the first time. In the four weeks since a number of established gaming champions have submitted their gaming accomplishments to the site along with some fresh names to the scene.
Some stories have gone mainstream, including David Race's latest "Fastest Perfect Pac-Man" which was verified first by RecordSetter and Ryan Sullivan's "Most Video Game Consoles Played in One Minute" which toppled NBC's Jimmy Fallon.
Here are some of the latest new video game records crowned by RecordSetter.com.
- Established Super Mario Bros. star Andrew Gardikis has set a new speed record on the game, finishing the NES classic in just 4 minutes, 58.72 seconds. Gardikis has been making SMB headlines for almost a decade prior to his latest speed run.
- California's Matt Lascola has blown through Zone 1 in the original Sonic the Hedgehog in 28 seconds flat, toppling the previous record of 29 seconds by Michael Sroka.
- PJ DiCesare has joined into the RecordSetter fun with a 25 minute, 35 second runthrough of Actraiser for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
- World of Warcraft makes the recent records list as Redwood City, CA's Jake Rodgers gains 108 companion pets for a new record.
- Paul Zimmerman hits the list again with a 2 minute, 51.91 second run on Game 2 of Video Olympics for the Atari 2600.
- Peter Mee used his slingshot to rack up 60,670 points on Level 1-3 of Angry Birds Rio and 66,860 points on Level 1-5 of the same title. He also racked up 204,525 points in the story mode of The House of the Dead: Overkill on the Papa's Palace of Pain segment.
- Oklahoma's Logan Banfield sliced through Fruit Ninja records to post 253 points in Zen Mode and 871 points in Arcade Mode.
- Storied classic arcade champ Joel West has taken to the mazes of arcade classic Berzerk with 49,430 points. Score was established on a fast bullet game without using the "box pattern" noted in the film Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade.
- Going the opposite way of a high score, New York's Ake Jay aimed to set the lowest possible score on Tiny Wings, pulling it off with a mere 1,298 points.
- While not a video game record, dancing game champion Elizabeth Bolinger recently appeared on RecordSetter with some creative record stunts, including the Highest Crayon Tower of 54 stories. A record for the Fastest Consumption of a Pouch of Capri Sun was also set by Bolinger but broken quickly.
A new voting system has been set up on the RecordSetter front page that allows the public to quickly view and vote on recently set records, establishing which records are popular trends among site visitors.
