Spring Break is a time for vacation, fun in the sun, plenty of partying, and some nice tropical cocktails— a preview to summer, if you will. Soon to hit theaters nationwide is the fast-paced drama “Spring Breakers” starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine.
This is a movie that touches on that wild time in college students’ lives and pushes the pedal to the floor in a racy plot where four girls find themselves having to do dirty work for a drug-dealing thug in order to pay for their wild Spring Break vacation.
Depending on how you view it, Spring Breakers could be seen as an MTV movie. Though, it’s on all accounts an exploitation flick about college life and illicit activity.
Granted, the movie premise is the type of gossamer a film student would draw up in his or her first semester in school. The film’s pushing of the envelope and the live action from the star-studded cast is what the whole to-do is about.
When college life springs into action in sunny southern California sometimes that means vacations go south of the border. Whatever happens south of the border sometimes stays south of the border, literally. This tragic fate is really brushed aside in the movie. Rather, it’s a haughty exploitation flick egging people on and trying to impact youth. Hopefully it can be a form of catharsis for college students to stay away from drug use and dangerous people.
