The road to Iowa is paved with the shattered Presidential dreams of Michelle Bachman, Newt Gingrich, and Herman Cain. It has been a difficult process for the Republican Party as frantic efforts to narrow the candidate pool have produced no clear frontrunner that the core voters can get behind.
Minnesota Republicans are also watching closely for signs of life in the party with no satisfaction. The fact that Mitt Romney is the clear candidate of default surprises very few people. Still the endless coverage portrays the race as one of vigorous debate designed to find the best candidate.
Nothing can be further from the truth. Romney's polling numbers have never gone above 25%. in Iowa. He continues to be a choice among voters who constantly looks out of the corner of their eyes hoping for a better choice.
The only choice is Romney. While I as a democrat would love nothing better than for the Republican Party to continue this chaotic process, it would serve them better to commit early and focus on Obama.
