Last minute gifts can be just as well received as those purchased long in advance. Particularly so when you give wine.

As organic wine grows in popularity, so too will its availability. Use your buying power to support this segment of the wine industry. One winery that has been selling organic wines since 1987 is Bonterra Vineyards. Their wines are widely distributed locally and are worth seeking out. They produce the great red varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Their white wines are Chardonnay, Muscat, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. They also produce a Rose. It was a Syrah that created my fondness for this winery. With these wines, you can give a gift that highlights stewardship of the environment.

Sparkling wine is always a favorite at the holidays. And there are so many good choices for sparkling wines – a sparkling wine from California, an asti or prosecco from Italy, cava from Spain, or sekt from Germany, or champagne or cremant from France. Everyone likes sparkling wines and there is such a variety readily available at the liquor and wine store down the street. It is always interesting to taste a sparkling wine from a different region of the world. If you want to smarten it up, add two champagne flutes.

Last but not least, wine charms are helpful. Wine charms hook around the stem of a wine glass. Each has a different “charm” that allows swirlers, at least those who remember what charm they have, to keep track of their wine glass at small to large gatherings. You can find all types of seasonal and hobby oriented wine charms. Also, they disappear over time so having an abundance is a good thing.

It is never too late to give a wine club membership as a gift. Simply tell the recipient that they have been joined. When received in time, the wine will taste so wonderful for the anticipation of it.

Happy gift giving! If you need more ideas, see my previous articles for other fabulous wine gift ideas.
