Listen up “fashionistas” or anyone interested in some of the designs that are debuting this spring. You can get a sneak peek of some of the enticing looks that European and American designers have for Spring 2012 during Fashion Week up in North Suburban Lake Forest.
Known for its grand estates and European style square of clever boutiques, the town is often a summer day getaway for lunch, shopping or an architecture tour. However, sometimes it’s worth slipping in a trip to Lake Forest while it’s still warm coat weather.
Among the town’s boutiques is the Lake Forest Shop, a couture savvy store in historic Market Square that is celebrating its 90th birthday this year. As a prelude to a birthday bash in September 2012, owner Ellen Stirling is mounting fashion events beginning with a spring peek of new lines during Fashion week now through Feb. 11. The highlight is a fashion show featuring a few samples from name European and American designers from noon to 2 p.m., Feb. 9.
Those in the know might recognize such brands as Aqua Scootum from London or Gerry Weber from Germany but likely have not seen the lines in the Midwest because they are arguably new to Chicago. They might be familiar with Douglas Hannant, a former Midwesterner turned New York favorite but are not likely to have seen his new and trendy Douglas Hannant Pink collection.
It’s also a chance to get an advance idea of what Gerard Darell, a French designer for such celebs as Angelina Jolie will be showing this spring.
The peek also includes items from New York designer Melanie Harris whose new designs have attracted Christian Serratos of Twilight, Jana Kramer of One Tree Hill and reality stars from Real Housewives will be showing this spring.
According to Stirling, Fashion Week will bring in Jarbo, a new brand for the store from Seattle because it is comfortable and can be dressed up or down and more Talbot Runhof (Johnny Talbot and Adrian Runhof) for their sophisticated cocktail wear.
“We’re 90 years young,” said Stirling. “We’re looking forward to new ideas and new designs. Each designer is sending a few pieces from the spring collections. Fashion week really is a taste of what is to come as the season unfolds,” she said.
