A Kyocera smartphone for the new year (Part 2)

A new year means changes, resolutions, and new ideas.

For many others it means a new smartphone. Millions and millions of mobile phone users now call themselves "Android users" so that means choices galore when it comes to picking out a new phone.

We now keep these phones for about two years, so it's important we not only find a smartphone we like, but also one that is durable and will protect our data.

Kyocera smartphones.

In part 1 of my look at Kyocera smartphones I took a look at the Kyocera Torque and the Hydro Elite. Two great phones. Well, we will keep going today with two more Kyocera offerings- the Kyocera Hydro Edge and the Kyocera Hydro XTRM

Kyocera Hydro Edge

The Hydro Edge might be my favorite of the Kyocera line.

Not only because it is available for Sprint and Boost Mobile users, but also because it is laden with features that come in handy.

The Hydro Edge feels good in your hand and it will become your trusty companion as you navigate life.

The Android phone with a 4" impact test screen offers Dragontail glass. Manufactured by Asahi, Dragontail glass is light, thin, and highly scrath-resistant.

For a guy that frequently keeps his phone in the same pocket as his keys, I need that protection.

Yes, the Hydro Edge is also dust and waterproof, but this smartphone is a performer.

It's quick, its slick looks don't draw too much attentions and the 5-megapixel camera for still and the HD video camcorder are more than adequate for a smartphone of this price.

For Boost Mobile customers this a great smartphone for a no contract customer.

With the Smart Sonic receiver you hear every little chirp and sound you need to hear on an important call, including the voice on the other end of the line.

This phone has it all for a device at this price level- and it is good for the environment. It's certified by the independent UL Environment, and is made mainly of materials that are safe for our environment.

Sprint and Boost Mobile customers should consider the Kyocera Hydro Edge.

Kyocera Hydro XTRM

XTRM must be short for "extreme" because it is dust, shock and waterproof.

Dust and waterproof to 1 meter and shock proof in that test have proved it can survive 26 drops from a height of four feet. It does meet the Military Standard 810G for shock.

The Hydro XTRM is designated for U.S. Cellular and Metro PCS customers demanding a phone that can handle the elements.

What you get is a 4-inch impact-resistant display, 4G LTE support, and a 2,000mAh battery along with a decent 5-megapixel camera.

All is an easy to set up and easy to use Android smartphone that won't break the bank.

Again, this could be a good smartphone for your teenager, or a good first smartphone for a child who is rough on whatever they will hold in their hands.

Battery life is good and for a phone that can withstand extreme conditions, it's pretty snappy.

A phone to consider when looking for a durable smartphone.
