A Hipster's Guide to Art School

Nothing aids better in cultivating an air of superiority than a knack for art, nothing quite conveys the middle finger to the man as the pursuit of passion over money .  As any self-respecting hipster should know an appreciation, or shall we say, depreciation of the arts is the ultimate badge in hipster superiorty.

In the land of Disney World, tourist traps and theme parks,  what does an aspiringhipster do to separate themselves from the Mouseketeers and annoyingly cheery people?

In the next few articles, I've compiled a list  of local Orlando Art Schools, and their alumnis, local, succesful artists that have been there and have lived to tell about it.

But before we begin, let's go over what one might glean from four years of pretentious professors and being having $40,000 in art school loanss. Number one, the first thing you learn in art school is how bad of an artist you are. Number two, the second thing you learn is that no matter how beautiful your work is, someone else's is always better. Once you realize this, you'll be fine. You will live, breathe, sleep, eat art. Literally. Get used to ingesting charcoal sticks and washing black coal out of your hair. You will make lots of friends that you'll never be able to hang out with because of your work load.. Social life? Forget about it. Significant other? Talk to the hand, literally.

What is the pay-off, one might ask, of being a starving, skinny jean clad hipster waif in the land of supersize-me's? Upon graduation, you will emerge a better artist. And if you've got the brain cells for it,  your potential for making money is limitless. Ignore the naysayers, or should I say, haters. Do what you love - do it blindly. Bonus: As a starving artist and starving student, you will never be fat. Call it the Freshman Negative 20.
