Buffalo Bluez, Plano’s newest restaurant, serves some of the best burgers you can find in North Texas.
Conceptual Director and Executive Chef Sean Cahill is no stranger to the culinary world. He has cut his teeth working in some of the finest restaurants in Dallas. He started as a line cook at the Mansion on Turtle Creek, worked at American Airlines Center Platinum Restaurant under Dean Fearing, M Crowd and Chris Ward’s Paris Vendome, was Chef de Cuisine at the Chop House in Ft. Worth, Executive Sous Chef at Pappas Bros., Perry’s Steakhouse and Executive Chef at NYLO Hotel’s The Loft.
He was also on Food Network.
Cahill wanted to open a high quality restaurant that offers simple burgers at a reasonable price. Everything is under $8.00.
Buffalo Bluez also has weekly burger specials and for the Lenten season fish and chips are on the menu.
“There are so many people who have dietary issues i.e., allergies and environmentally conscious eaters. I wanted people to be able to enjoy dining in my restaurant without having to worry about those issues,” said Cahill.
Never afraid of a challenge, Cahill worked with a vegan journalist to create a mouth-watering vegan burger. The Rockin’ Robin is the best-kept secret (You have to ask for it). It is a vegan burger made with carrots, onions, string beans, oat bran, soybeans, zucchini, peas, broccoli, corn, spinach, red peppers, corn and garlic. It is served on a bed of wild arugula topped with avocado, fresh tomatoes, peppers and onions and it is damn good.
Speaking of being environmentally conscious, Cahill decided to redesign existing space instead of building new from the ground up. Buffalo Bluez used a former Jack In The Box restaurant but the food is nothing like the former occupants.
Here are some of the menu highlights:
Starters: Buffalo Bitez are buttermilk soaked chicken nuggets served with ranch or blue cheese dressing. You can specify spicy if you think you can handle it.
The Brizket Bowl is house cut fries, slow smoked beef brisket topped with melted cheese and Pico de Gallo.
Fried Jalapeno Strips are served with ranch dressing. This is a nice change from stuffed jalapenos.
Burgers: The Ranch Hand is slow roasted brisket, crispy fried onion with pickles stacked on a burger patty and Bluez house BBQ blend sauce.
Buffalo in the Hen House is a buffalo burger with melted cheddar cheese, topped with an over easy egg and strips of bacon. This is a serious burger.
Bird in a Bun is a marinated chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, melted Swiss cheese, with mayo on a pretzel bun.
For the vegetarians there are many salads to choose from but also there is also the Fired Up Beans & Greens: a black bean burger with lettuce and fired up corn salad.
You cannot be in Plano, Texas (home of Frito-Lay) and not offer a Frito® Pie Burger. It is a burger topped with Texas chili, melted cheese and Fritos®.
The salads and wraps are big, fresh and loaded. Buffalo Bluez also offers Kid’s meals that are served on a Frisbee-style plate.
The onions rings are amazing. The Shiner Bock tempura batter is what makes them so good.
To compliment your meal there are six beers on tap (Shiner Bock, Alaskan Amber, Franconia Wheat and Dunkel, Miller Lite, Bud Light plus 10 bottles (Dos Equis, Blue Moon, Coors light, Rahr & Sons, Heineken, Shiner FM 966, Michelob Ultra and Budweiser Regular and Black Crown, Angry Orchard Hard Cider). Red and white wines are available along with sweet and regular tea and sodas.
There is patio that seats 36 and blues music plays throughout the restaurant and patio area. Three televisions that broadcast from Direct TV with full surround sound for sporting events and a fully interactive jukebox makes this a fun place to eat and meet with friends.
Bottom Line: This is a family-friendly establishment that offers good food. Whether you are a meat-lover, vegetarian or vegan, you will find something to your liking.
