A healthy journey through a spa called SHA

Young, handsome Alejandro Bataller Pineda flew into Los Angeles from Spain recently to introduce a unique, Macrobiotic intense wellness clinic called SHA to a group of spa writers gathered for a luncheon at Il Cielo on Burton Way.

The enthusiastic head of sales and marketing of the posh 93-suite spa, located in Albir Beach, outside picturesque Villa Altea (an autonomous region of Valenica, Spain), took us through of a fascinating virtual journey of the facility.

Possibly the most interesting aspect for many health-conscious Los Angeles people is the emphasis on Macrobiotics--a cuisine that's difficult to prepare and not that easy to find in restaurants. Of course the incrediable Mediterranean location and philosophy also makes it an attractive spa escape.

For vegan and/or more serious Macrobiotic disciples, SHA represents a dream come true where you can detoxify, lose weight or find the road to health, and according to Alejandro, longevity. "SHA is a world-wide pioneering well-being clinic focused in improving and notably lengthening people’s health and well-being through the fusion of the best natural therapies, mainly originated from millenarian eastern wisdom, and the most advanced western techniques," explained Alejandro at the press lunch in Los Angeles. " SHA’s major fields are the nutrition and natural therapies (the SHA Method), Healthy-Ageing and non-invasive Aesthetic Medicine", he added.

SHA Facilities include aRestaurant, Wellness Centre, Swimming Pools, Paddle, Putting Greens (15 golf courses nearby), Conference Room, Chapel, Yoga and Meditation Room, Library, Tea Room and SHA Boutique. It is situated about 80 minutes away by car from Valencia International Airport and 40 minutes by car from Alicante International Airport. VIP transfer service is offered from both airports. Furthermore, SHA has its own heliport for clients.

The Concept: SHA is all about obtaining optimum health of mind and body through a combination of ancient oriental techniques and the ultimate advances in western medicine. According to our host, after staying at SHA, people feel more vital, healthful and young. That's enough to make anyone want to book a plane ticket and head to Spain.

Facilities: The SHA building is the most recent creation of the prestigious Uruguayan architect, Carlos Gilardi, and the prize-winning European designer, Elvira Blanco Montenegro.5 architecturally-surprising independent structures, inter-communicated by bridges, comprise the edifice, and contain 93 suites with surface areas of between 80 and 320 square meters. The complex includes large swimming pools and waterfalls, and many relaxation areas such as the Zen, Mediterranean and Tropical gardens.

Accommodations:  Suites sport modern designs and each comes with a dressing room, air-conditioning, and a spacious terrace with a spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Helada.  A few accommodations are equipped with a Hydro-spa. Some have a kitchenette where the chef or one of the members of his team can prepare meals in the suite itself, giving a private class in Macrobiotic cookery, if desired.

A Presidential Suite on the top floor comes with 3 bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, swimming pool, and a large solarium with panoramic views of surroundings.

Cuisine: SHA’s main restaurant, SHAMADI dishes out tasty Macrobiotic fusion fare that mixes with Mediterranean and Japanese traditions.

Getting there:  The Spa is situated about 80 minutes away by car from Valencia International Airport and 40 minutes by car from Alicante International Airport. VIP transfer service is offered from both airports. Furthermore, SHA has its own heliport for clients.  Airlines offering the best schedule to the area from LAX include Iberia and American. Most flights connect in Madrid.
