Travel back to the past, to the dark woods of Coventry, Connecticut and take a stroll through the Strong Estate and its foreboding woods. Learn the tragic tale of a doctor and his dear wife Rebecca who was taken too soon by the horrible disease, consumption. The story will play out before your very eyes and in the end it is you who will decide your fate.
First you will be taken through the Strong home property and you will be told Rebecca’s tragic story. Be wary though, who knows who or what may be watching from the estate’s dark shadows. After you learn the estate's dark history, a lantern carrier leads you to the forest gate that borders the Strong property. As the gate door opens and you peer into the darkness, a chill caresses your neck. Is it simply a cold autumn breeze or is it one of the malevolent spirits that inhabit the forest?
Moonlight highlights the skeletal trees and you shiver in fright. The gate closes with a loud creak behind you and now you have no choice but to step forward and face your fear. The woods you enter are cursed and creatures of the night lie in wait, hiding in the dark shadows, watching for their next victim. Can you survive the horrors that lie beyond the forest gates?
Join the Coventry Historical Society for “Dark Walk” “A Hauntingly Enchanted Evening”. This haunted walk is one of Connecticut’s top Halloween attractions and it is all for the benefit of the Coventry Historical Society. The event is put on by Jim Wieloch, who also runs the Connecticut haunted attraction “Graveside Manor”. The manor will not be open this year due to the fact that Mr. Wieloch is putting all of his creative energy into this lantern tour.
I had the privilege of attending a photo shoot and practice of Dark Walk. I met several of the professional actors, skilled theatrical makeup artists, and got to examine many of the realistic props. With all the energy these people are putting forward, Dark Walk promises to not disappoint. The event is extremely popular and because of this, reservations are required. Dark Walk runs on Friday and Saturday, October 14, 15, 21 and 22, 2011. This event is limited to 20 people per group with 10 group tours per night.
They ask that you please dress appropriately for an outdoor excursion through the woods. The tours take place at the Strong Porter Home in Coventry. You will park at the Nathan Hale Homestead and be taken by hay ride to the Strong Porter Home. The cost for this lantern walk is $20. Please call (860) 742-5234 or email aader@prodigy.net to make reservations. I will be attending the tour on October 15th and I am completely ecstatic about it.
