When visiting Disney World in May you are going to feel like it is summer. Do not forget to bring your swimsuit and head to the pool for an afternoon of fun in the sun. Make sure you bring plenty of sun block, because the sun’s rays here in Florida are nothing like you may be used to back home. Also, be prepared for those daily afternoon thundershowers. Bring a poncho to stay dry or make plans to enjoy time exploring your resort and to eat when the storms arrive.
Expect crowds to be heavy in the early weeks of the month, but they will lessen the further along the month progresses as local schools are back in session, waiting for summer vacation. Weekends will be busy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot, because both of these parks have popular events planned during the month.
May is the final month for the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, which concludes mid-month. Make sure to stop by and get all of your garden themed merchandise and tips from vendors and celebrity guest speakers.
May kicks off Star Wars Weekends, giving Star Wars fans an opportunity to meet their favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away. Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be able to get autographs, participate in a variety of Star Wars-themed activities and even come face to face with Darth Vader. (Both the International Flower and Garden Festival and Star Wars weekends are included with theme park admission.)
Even though the crowds are not as heavy, you should still take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, Disney’s FastPass+ system and single rider lines to get the most out of your visit. The best attraction to use the single ride line is for Test Track at Epcot. Just remember, your party may be split up, so be prepared to not ride together. Consider saving your FastPass+ for Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom and Soarin’ at Epcot. These attractions tend to be very busy this time of year.
There is no better way to get ready for summer than a getaway to the Walt Disney World Resorts in May. Kick back, relax and enjoy your time before the parks get very busy with the summer crowds.
