This Friday, Feb 5th, marks the beginning of the fine arts social season for 2010. Art on the Town , a tradition in Wilmington since 1988 and the surrounding area, is a wonderful opportunity to check out a new restaurant, coffee shop or favorite gallery and see both established and emerging artists. Most venues offer light refreshments and cocktails to help entice you to visit and hopefully find something to take home.

You have two ways to participate each month. The Art on the Town shuttle is a free service that picks passengers up at 5:45 PM and returns by 8:45 PM. Choose between a Downtown or Trolley Square Shuttle. Each shuttle does only the loop of the designated route, therefore the shuttles can only be picked at the pick-up location. You can also do a self-guided tour at your own pace which offers more freedom to visit openings on both the Downtown and Trolley Square loops as well as Wilmington Neighbors loop.

Regular venues to count on, The Station Gallery in Greenville and Hardcastle Gallery in Centreville always offer the areas top artists and a nice reception to go with it. These two venues are part of the self-guided tour as they are out of the range of the loop buses. "Ice Breakers" a rotating group show is The Station Gallery's event for February, you can take a peek online at their website it looks like a great group with some dynamic new work. Hardcastle Gallery is featuring Jim Graham's fine art photography all month, it is an intimate look at Nantucket and Iceland titled "Island".

A new venue joining Art on the Town this month is Union City Grille at 8th & Union Streets. Carol Tippit Woolworth's wonderful canvases of fruit are featured in their private dining area/art gallery. Look for this to be a regular venue with some top notch artists stepping up to show, the "gallery" has been booked through June with some great talent. Union City Grille owner Matthew Curtis is ready to welcome art lovers into his restaurant to sample some of his award wining cuisine, taste some great wine and enjoy some beautiful art. All artwork will be available to purchase and can be viewed online through Allison Weer, Artist Consultant and Event Planner's website- www.allisonweer.com.

You can pick up an Art on the Town brochure at participating galleries and venues as well as online at www.Wilmingtonde.gov.com . Mark your calendar's and plan for some gallery hopping, Friday February 5th is fast approaching,
