"A Great Mystery" (Ephesians 6:19)

This Saturday, February 2, is traditional known as Groundhog Day. The day is significant because the named animal is to determine how many more weeks of winter. If the groundhog sees it shadow, then returns to its hole there is suppose to be 6 more weeks of winter. This tradition has been carried along for years and is a sure wonderment if the animal’s actions prove true. Animals have a way in nature and can offer some very interesting feedback to those who observe them.

God is the creator of all animals and humans. Can a little creature tell God how to conduct the weather or does the creature get orders from God to signify the coming weather? It is a mystery as to why humans feel it significant to base the weather from the groundhog.

The New Testament speaks of mystery. A mystery provokes a curiosity about someone or something. Read the following verses:

  • “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.” (Romans 16:25)
  • “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,” (1 Corinthians 15:51)
  • “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” (Ephesians 5:2)
  • “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,” (Ephesians 6:19)

The Strong Concordance gives this definition:

Mystery: (to shut the mouth); a secret or “mystery” (through the idea of silence imposed by initiation into religious rites): - mystery.

Essentially God has some secrets i.e. mysteries. Jesus has revealed to believers whom He can trust these secrets of His Kingdom. Enquiring minds want to know more. Ask Jesus about salvation and His Kingdom. The maker of Heaven and Earth is waiting for your prayers.
