Author Mary Ann Hoberman put a fun twist to short stories for children in “You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Stories to Read Together”. Each short story is color coded so two each read certain parts of the story and then some parts they read together. To add to the fun of taking turns reading the stories are based on Mother Goose rhymes but with a modern twist such as based on Old Mother Hubbard a woman and her dog decide it’s too cold to go out so they decide to order-in.
"In the shade (Or in the sun) / Choose a book (That looks like fun.) / One that's old (Or one that's new.) / Make-believe (Or really true.) / I'll read one line (I'll read two.) / You'll read to me. / I'll read to you."
The illustrations by Michael Emberley compliment each story with bright colors of children and animals frolicking across the pages while not interfering with the text of the stories.
While adults may find the text a bit confusing or even boring children seem to love “You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Stories to Read Together”. One point I’m sure is because they are not being read to or the full task of reading put on them but are sharing not only the words in the book but special time with parents. Even the youngest of readers delight in taking turns reading and even adding special voices for each of the characters.
In the Lansing area you can find “You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Stories to Read Together” at the Aurelius and Dansville branches of the Capital Area District Library, the Brooklyn, Henrietta, Meijer and Summit branches of the Jackson District Library or you can order your own copy online at Amazon.com.
I highly recommend “You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Stories to Read Together” and sharing the over one dozen short stories for children.

Comments
I love this concept - reading to each other is fun and a great way to get children interested and not bored by trying to make them read for long periods of time.
Looks like a cute book~ involves everyone!
