A glimpse into the CW's 'Cult'

Cult is one of the CW’s new midseason shows. It airs Tuesday nights at 8, starting this Tuesday, the 19th. After watching the not-for-review pilot, courtesy of the CW, here are some spoiler free thoughts on the show.

Cult is a very complex show. Did you watch Ringer last year? Yeah, Cult makes Ringer look simple. Let’s try to get this down to the basics, shall we? Cult is about people investigating the fans of a TV show called Cult. That’s right on Cult there is a TV show called Cult that happens to also be on the CW. Still with me? Ok so on Cult, there is a police investigation happening. The police are looking into a cult being led by Billy Grimm. Basically the investigation happening in the “real world” mirrors what is happening on Cult. It’s hard to explain, but trust me, it makes more sense when you see it. Are you intrigued?

This show has the potential to be exciting and mind boggling. In the pilot, the writers are just scratching the surface of all the little mysteries and intricacies of both worlds (Cult and Cult’s). As if the premise isn’t enough of a mystery, the ways Jeff and people on Cult go about trying to solve the mystery and track down clues are awesome. There are also cool Easter eggs that the fans find in the show. What are you most excited about?

Clearly one of the potential issues for the show will be whether or not the writers can balance all of these storylines. The pilot does a good job of giving just enough to help viewers notice there is a connection between what is happening in the “real world” and what is happening in Cult. At some point the writers will need to develop the characters on Cult a little bit more, perhaps even show more than just a couple scenes from Cult. Do you have any concerns?

Leave me your thoughts in a comment below. Will you be tuning in? You can check out the pilot now here. Make sure you hit subscribe!
