A ghost in Honolulu? Book ‘em Danno!

Honolulu had a ghost sighting reported in 1909. It seemed to be haunting a family and followed it to three different places of residence. The police handling the case were not able to successfully handle the matter.
A Portuguese family named Pavia had been singled out by the spirit, and for several months their lives were made miserable by the phantom’s pranks. All of the members of the family, including several boys and girls, seen the apparition and witnesses its manifestations.

The ghost first made its appearance on the scene when the family lived on Kauluwela Lane near School Street. It appeared in the form of a black dog which would run up to the various members of the family and sniff at them. Then it would disappear, and a few minutes later a shower pf stones would descend on the house, breaking the windows and flying into the rooms. The stones would keep coming for a few minutes; then there would be an interval of about 30 minutes until the fun would begin again.

A weird feature about the haunting was the fact that the manifestation took place only when the head of the house was awake. As soon as he went to sleep, it would stop!

This racket took place almost every night, and to escape it the Pavias moved to another house at Waikahalulu. The ghost, however, was persistent and the family had to move, choosing its abode in a house on Chun Hoon Lane, again near School Street. The third move failed to influence the ghost. Soon the dog and the stones came along with unfailing regularity. Finally the poor haunted Pavia family took refuge with the police.

The chief detectives and his staff went to the scene. As the approached, they heard a shower of stones striking the roof and walls of the house, but when they arrived everything became quiet as a grave. All that night and into the early morning they kept their faithful watch, but neither ghost, dog, or the stones made their appearance.
