It seems that Mother Nature can be replaced in many new ways. Is it time for Mother Nature to retire?
With all the Genetic Engineering (GE) that is taking place, it might seem that Mother Nature is no longer required or wanted. Science and profits can do a better job of it so it seems, or so corporations and governments tell us.
Once upon a time, in a land far away... Mother Nature was free, no one owned her, or the abundance she produced and cared for. But life is changing. It appears that some large corporations are hell bent on changing this, in fact have already changed it. Genetic Engineering is becoming a reality, with huge corporations creating and owning what Mother Nature gave us freely. What is the impetus behind all of this? The answer to that is a statement that has become quite famous, “Follow the money”.
Pharmaceuticals, GE foods, synthetics, can all be owned, while Mother Nature’s natural products cannot. Change or strip out something from nature and genetically alter it and you now have a product that can be owned. It’s huge and it’s a profitable industry.
If you get sick you pop a pill, you visit your doctor and get a prescription for a drug. In the past if you became sick you turned to Mother Nature. You went to a healer who would heal you with a natural product from Mother Nature. This was the practice by healers for thousands and thousands of years. So successful was Mother Nature that companies called pharmaceuticals, unable to own Mother Nature herself, found ingenious ways to own an altered (some might suggest a bastardized) form of Mother Nature. Pharmaceutical companies have done it for years, take a natural product such as an herb or other botanical and strip out the medicinally active elements, modify them or synthesize them and take out a patent on the new product. What can be grown in many cases in your back yard for next to nothing, or purchased in its natural form for a very low cost, are now sold as patented drugs for 10’s to 100’s of times the cost to you and increased profit for the companies that produce them.
Un-Natural Food
A visit to the local Grocers in Toronto and surrounding areas has become a greater challenge. How is one to tell what is is real and what is not? We have the onslaught of GE foods being produced and sold and like drugs these are patented products that are owned by corporations who make large profits on them. In Canada and the USA, these companies and companies that use these GE foods in their products do not even have to inform you that they do. Whatever happened to the labelling laws, that I for one thought were in place to inform us of a products content? In Canada it appears that you don’t have the right to know that you may be eating GE foods and food products.
There are few stores in the Toronto and GTA area that I have found that are informing their customers as to what is or isn't a GE product. It's not like they can't find out this information as it is available, Green Peace has created a detailed document if you look. In their defence, it is not information that they are given, so unless they look for it they don't know what is or isn't a GE food or food product. Goodbye to Mother Nature
It would seem that your health, your diet, heck the whole of Mother Nature is up for sale to the highest bidders for their profit, and the natural world, environment and ecologies be damned. The air you breath has been sold to industries that can afford it, you don’t have to reduce the pollution you create you only have to buy someone else’s carbon allowance and go on polluting. Water is still being used and abused for profit, as well as being chemically altered with chlorines and fluorides all at a cost to tax dollars and a profit to some corporation. Medical botanicals have been exploited to create profitable drugs while the natural ones cannot be sold medicinally. Now we have food being genetically altered so it to can be owned and controlled.
We continue to see the affects of altering and abusing Mother Nature and yet we continue to push on for a “Genetically Engineered” world. Why and who is pushing this agenda? Once again “Follow the Money” echo’s in my ears.
