God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at the break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. Come and see the works of the Lord, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shield with fire. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. (Psalm 46: 1-11)
"Old age is not for sissies." I pondered this passage while reading Billy Graham's new book, Nearing Home. In it Dr. Graham explores the challenges and blessings of being a mature Christian.
Recently I was denied a new job because of my age. I spent part of that day bemoaning my lot in life until an old and dear friend came to visit. He needed to talk and express his heartfelt feelings to me, as he was going through a difficult time. As he shared his thoughts I began to realize the blessings that God had given me. I was blessed by our long friendship and his concern for me. Furthermore I experienced joy that God had used me to help him. We are never too old to be used by God.
How about you? Can you be a blessing to someone in your life today? God can use you for his glory if only you will let him.
