Debbie Stoller is the author/designer of the Stitch'n Bitch series of which she is on her fifth book. Her goal is to teach you to knit through her step by step instructional books. Now, she is branching out and making it easier for you to learn.
Debbie has come out with two free DIY instructional videos for you to watch under Stitch'n Bitch TV. The first is a basic “How To Knit” video for beginners, which you can view in the sidebar to the left. Then she has a two part video "How to knit Lace with yarnovers", to view here.
For more information on Debbie's Stitch 'n Bitch books go to "knit happens". She has free patterns here and also at her Stitch Nation site for you to try your hand in knitting what you have just learned. A book of patterns and instructions is a great way to examine the step by steps and the wonderful photographs of the finished piece. But, how can you beat looking over her shoulder to see how she actually uses her needles.
Now that you have viewed the "How to Knit" video, maybe you are up to knitting a "Button Scarf". This Wednesday, September 14, from 6 - 8 P.M. New England Yarn & Spindle located at 801 Terryville Avenue Bristol, CT 06010, 860-516-4646, is having a class.
This unique "Button scarf" uses button holes that are integrated into the pattern to allow it to be worn in many ways. Wear it long in a traditional way and the buttons create a point of interest. Wrap the scarf twice around your neck and button it and it becomes a neck warmer. Connect the two ends of the scarf and create a moebius.
The best part of this scarf is the intricate-looking pattern only seems difficult. It is worked-up using variations of the basic knit stitch on two different size needles. $25.00 plus materials.
