Love is the greatest power known to man. Love is powerful because there are no limitations and the possibilities are endless. You can see how loves changes the world because it motivates us into action. You can see love through the eyes of a mother protecting her child, a young man standing up for another who is being bullied, donating money to a charity or cause or helping your community pick trash up along the highway. These are all forms of love. Love gives us reason and motivation. Gives us hope and joy. Our relationships with each other change because of love, because of the love of a Father who first showed us how.
“Let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:7-8
Our Father God loves us with an agape love. A love that is selfless, sacrificial and unconditional. He loves us regardless of who we are and what we have done in life. We don’t deserve His love but He gives it to us anyway. His love surpasses all of our understanding. He loves us when we are stubborn and refuse to listen and waits patiently for us to come to Him. He corrects us when we are wrong and don’t want to admit it. He protects us, reaching beyond our circumstances and guides us in the direction we should go. He never leaves or gives up on us. He doesn’t just love us, He is love itself.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
He demonstrates His love to us time and time again in many forms and ways but it is always constant and unchanging. No matter how many times we mess up, He still loves us just the same. By understanding His love for us it helps us to love others. We understand His love for us by knowing Him and what He has done for us. No matter how hard we try, we can’t love others on our own strength, but when we allow God to show us, we can love the way that He does. He is the one who sets the standard and gives us something to strive for.
“Compassion without selfishness is a world changed through love.”
