A "Fastest-Growing Small Town" in America in the Ozarks

As we consider our Ozarks cultural heritage it is frequently good to remember that this heritage is being built and continued each day. Today, we read that Fort Leonard Wood, MO, right here in the Ozarks, is the THIRD ranked 'Fastest-Growing Small Town' in America, according to Forbes as reported in Yahoo Real Estate.

In Pulaski County, we recently wrote about Fort Leonard Wood and Waynesville on historic Route 66 now served by Interstate 44. The population of Fort Leonard Wood grew from 44,326 in 2007 to 52,274 in 2010, a growth rate of 17.9 %. Forbes used census data for every Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas with fewer than 100,000 people. These statistical areas are geographic entities defined by the U. S. government that usually encompass a core municipality and its suburbs. The truly smallest town in America were excluded from the rankings, as  micropolitan areas must have populations of at least 10,000.
